An integrated approach
At The Third Space we believe in taking an integrated approach to solving problems and designing solutions that are sustainable. We work together with you as a thinking partner and co-creator of solutions to problems that are keeping you and your organisation stuck.
Our collaborative consulting style uniquely combines storytelling and coaching with critical inquiry, systemic analysis and iterative design. Because we realise that when it comes to solving complexity and building adaptability, personal meaning-making is as important as logical thought.

Whether we are working with you to develop your strategy, cultivate leadership, re-design your organisation or evolve your culture, we will always be considering the impact of these different aspects on each other in the context of the whole. In this way we ensure that problems are solved systemically, and solutions are designed in concert with each other.
Defining the problem
Sometimes, defining the problem is the hardest part.
You will only get to the right answers if you are asking the right questions. A fresh pair of eyes, free of limiting organisational narratives, can help unlock the heart of the problem and its inter-relationship with the workings of the broader organisational system.
We help you by analysing your As Is situation across people, systems and structures to present a helicopter view of the potential causes of various symptoms you may have identified as “problems” in your organisation. By looking beyond the symptoms and identifying root causes the real problems become clearer and you will be able to direct your resources with precision to maximise the value of your chosen solutions.
Are you asking the right questions?
Strategy
When you need new direction and a clear plan to get there.
Strategy is the clear articulation of your plan to deliver your services such that your business is successful within its environment according to the purpose for which the business was created and the value it seeks to create.
It determines what is in and what is out for your business and sets clear direction. This, in turn, establishes boundaries for agile decision making across the organisation and offers opportunity for distributed, empowered leadership.
The Third Space works closely with you to tailor innovative approaches to exploring and developing your business strategy, enabling you to:
- Solidify purpose & determine what is in and what is out for your business.
- Identify inherent points of leverage and mission critical capabilities for growth.
- Re-imagine value creation beyond the financial bottom line to resource sustainability; and societal contribution.
- Consistently articulate & track the success of your chosen strategies against well defined outcomes.
- Embed strategy review & evolution as a regular way of work from which all activity springs.
Our value lies in generating powerful thinking spaces that encourage new thinking, while producing outputs that drive action and embed strategy at the heart of decision making throughout your organisation.
Organisational Design
When you have a vision that needs a Ferrari but it feels like you’re driving a pick-up truck.
Organisational design may be seen as the art and science of “hanging things together” to create the conditions for sustainable, adaptable operations and successful business strategy delivery. Unfortunately organisational design is often seen as a exercise in moving boxes on an organogram rather than an act of strategic transformation by design.
At The Third Space we help you change this by:

Our focus is on designing adaptable operating models that clearly define the critical capabilities, governance, roles and inter-connections that support agility. Our designs will enable you to build a flexible scaffold that drives sustainable change and is supported by, rather than slave to, your organogram and reporting structure.
Narrative Leadership
Do you have the courage to be truly seen and connect with others?
To be a leader for our times takes the courage to be vulnerable in order to connect, while also establishing sufficient safety and direction to enable others to take decisive action. To do this you must be anchored in a deep sense of who you are, why you show up and what you offer the world. You need to discover the heart of your leadership identity.
The Third Space offers unique programmes that combine integral coaching with personal storytelling to grow authentic leaders and build powerful leadership teams.
These programmes can be tailored to meet specific individual and organisational needs.
Culture
When the “way you do things around here” no longer serves you.
Organisational culture can be viewed as a composite of everything we allow and do not allow within our organisation. It is the product of the boundaries set on behaviour; the mechanisms used to communicate, enable and reinforce these behaviours; and the day to day modelling of this behaviour by formal leadership.
Great leaders recognise that cultures are built intentionally and need to be continuously evolved over time in support of the purpose and vision of the organisation. For many the challenge lies in making the deeply embedded values and norms that support their current culture sufficiently visible to allow for change.
At the Third Space we work with you to:

Team Dynamics
When you want to build a vibrant team that delivers exceptional results
All teams, whether they are permanent functional teams or ad hoc teams brought together for a specific project can have their ups and downs as the demands placed on them fluctuate, their size and shape shifts and their ability to collectively navigate success and failure is put to the test.
The Third Space uniquely combines team coaching with storytelling to build healthy group dynamics within leadership teams. We walk alongside these teams to facilitate dialogue around their personal internal stories and narratives in the context of the broader team narrative and purposes. In so doing we challenge deep seated beliefs, uncover the possibilities inherent in these stories and craft a new narrative for the future.
Successful teams:
- Are clear on the purpose and outcomes for which they exist.
- Quickly build and maintain connection through open conversation and sharing.
- Recognise and leverage the strengths of their teammates.
- Set ongoing, clear boundaries around acceptable ways to work together.
- Hold each other to account for the success of the whole team.
